Since September 2025, our EcoWalls have been in the water, and so much has happened already. It's been fantastic to watch!
The plants have flourished, and birds, fish, insects, and people have all discovered these new green habitats. It's been a tremendous success.
 

Of course, not everything has gone according to plan. Some ideas turned out not to work as expected, certain EcoWalls established more successfully than others, and we're still figuring out why. That's all part of the process, and every challenge helps us learn and improve.
 

The biggest difference between the EcoWalls at De Nederlandsche Bank and those along the waterfront promenade is sunlight. The EcoWalls at De Nederlandsche Bank receive much more sun, allowing the plants to grow faster and bloom far more abundantly. Looking at them today, it's hard to believe these lush green oases have been there for less than a year.
 

The EcoWall along the promenade took a little longer to establish, and not all of the original planting thrived. On the other hand, biodiversity is actually higher there. The existing vegetation growing from the quay walls combines with the EcoWall planting, creating a richer mix of species that complement one another.

Each location has developed its own unique character.
 

At both sites, we've already spotted schools of young fish, moorhens have nested successfully, and many bird species are making use of the platforms, willow branches, and wooden poles.
