The EcoWal along the walkingboulevard is looking fantastic! It took a little longer to establish than expected, but it has now grown into a real gem. One challenge we continue to face, however, is litter. Bottles, corks, polystyrene, bottle caps, syringes (yes, unfortunately those too), and all kinds of small plastic waste are regularly washed into the EcoWal by for example wave action. What a buzz around the flower planters! They're alive with bumblebees, bees, butterflies, and all kinds of beneficial insects. It's a truly beautiful sight. Planting more nature along the EcoWal On the evening of 9 July, we added a selection of marginal plants to the EcoWal along the boulevard. What are marginal plants? These are plants that naturally grow in the wet transition zone between land and water, along the edges of ponds, canals and rivers. Why did we plant these? Earlier in the season, fewer species had established than expected, leaving quite a few bare patches. At least, that was the case until mid June. After that,

More than 80 students from the Academic Consultancy Training programme applied to take on our challenge: "Can a green riverbank bring life back to the city? Dive into the EcoWal and measure nature's comeback in Amsterdam's canals." In the end, around 20 students were selected to join the project. One team explored how the next generation of EcoWallen could be improved. They looked at what could be refined, added or removed as we continue to develop and expand the concept. The

The mother mallard with her 6 ducklings feels right at home at the EcoWal. They make full use of the decking and the trellising on the willow branches. A beautiful sight. Perhaps she will come to breed in the EcoWal next year; that would be wonderful too.

Well, just look at that..... lots of little fish at the EcoWal! Soon we will be monitoring underwater to see what lives beneath the surface, and we will share this with you. But this is already visible to the naked eye. Fantastic!

What splendor at our EcoWalls. They haven't even been in the water for a year, and just look at the bloom. And not just the plants; the animals know how to find the EcoWall too. From fish to birds, from hoverflies to bees, from butterflies to ladybugs. Even the coots have nested in the EcoWal. That is what we do it for!
