Over 200 kilos of litter were collected during our annual city cleanup!
Yes… we weighed it this year, so we know exactly what we’re talking about. On AmsterdamCleansDay, 19th of September 2025, we headed out for the third year in a row to clean up the Stadhouderskade. With over 80 enthusiastic participants, we got to work, and it turned into another fantastic event. An amazing feeling to make a positive impact with so many warm, committed people. Removing waste from nature, meeting each other, creating new connections, and building a strong sense of community—that’s what it’s all about. Together we make the difference.

A team cycled around with cargo bikes to swap full trash bags for empty ones. At Hemonypleintje, we gathered all the bags to weigh them, and of course we wrapped up the day with food and drinks. Even the stubborn cigarette butts and tiny bits of litter were removed this year thanks to the special suction machine provided by Green Streets—8 kilos of small waste in total. And yes, there are a shocking amount of cigarette butts. Realizing that one single butt can pollute about 1,000 liters of water, which then flows into the soil ecosystem and the canals, says enough.
A big thank you to everyone for the effort, the energy, and the enthusiasm!
